Description
A Cormorant is a large diving bird with a long neck, long hooked bill, short legs, and mainly dark plumage. They are a member of the 26 to 30 species of water birds constituting the family Phalacrocoracidae. I took this photograph in the Everglades, For me the Everglades is the ultimate escape, It is so refreshing to get out of the city and enjoy the wilderness that is so abundant with wildlife,

Several years ago, I happened to be driving by Quake Lake on my way to Yellowstone, and they’re in a copse of dead trees near the water line was gathered a group of large, dark birds, sitting quiet as statues in the gloaming of the evening. I pulled off the road and got out of my truck and just stood watching them until all the light was gone, and they never once fluttered nor made a sound. It was only later that a friend of mine told me that I was witnessing a gathering of double-crested Cormorants. Your lovely image has brought them back to me, and like you observe in your note, I am quite grateful for both the experience and the memory…
